Every Day is Earth Day at Koyo

Imagine planting a billion trees. It is difficult to imagine a billion of anything, let alone planting that many trees, but this is just one of the positive changes in our environment that has come about because of Earth Day. This particular feat began as a campaign launched by Earth Day Network in 2010 and was accomplished by 2012.

It all started forty-six years ago today, when the world celebrated its first Earth Day. On April 22, 1970, 20 million people demonstrated against environmental deterioration. Later that year, the Environmental Protection Agency was founded and the Clean Water, Clean Air and Endangered Species Acts were passed. Since then, Earth Day has become Earth Week and is now the largest secular observance in the world, with over a billion people celebrating the day every year in over 193 countries. Celebrations and activities involving service projects, rallies, and conferences are aimed at raising environmental awareness and changing human behavior.
